A big, lean beautiful burger with caramelized onions and sharp cheddar! Healthy never tasted so good!
Make 2 burgers
• 1 Tbs olive oil
• 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
• 1/4 cup of dry red wine
• 1 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
• dash of salt
• 1 Tbs of onion or shallot, minced
• 1 tsp kosher salt
• 1/4 tsp cracked black pepper
• 1/4 tsp garlic powder
• 1/4 tsp dried thyme
• 1 Tbs of Worcestershire sauce
• 2 hamburger buns
• 4 slices of sharp white cheddar cheese
• Dijon mustard
• lettuce leaves
First make the caramelized onions: Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a heavy skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until tender and golden brown, stirring often, about 15 – 20 minutes. Add wine and Worcestershire and cook, stirring occasionally until liquid is absorbed, about 5 minutes, sprinkle with a little salt.
For the burgers: add all burger ingredients in a large bowl, use your hands and mix well. Shape into two burgers.
Prepare the grill, oil the grates and grill the burgers, bison is best cooked medium rare. That should take about 4 – 5 minutes on each side. Then add the cheese and put the lid on to melt.
Build your burgers, put some Dijon on the bottom bun, top with the lettuce, burger, and caramelized onions, put the top on and take a big messy bite of goodness!
