Fresh Apple Cake with Whipped Cream and Salted Caramel

Okay, guys, this is an easy to make shortcut cake, but you would never ever know it! Start out with a cake mix, stir in fresh, chopped apples and cinnamon, bake, then pour dulce de leche sweetened condensed milk over the warm cake, then chill, and top with whipped cream and drizzle on salted caramel and chopped nuts if you like, Hows that sound?! It tastes like you spent most of your life making it, don't tell anyone that it's storebought, cake mix, caramel, and whipped cream, perfect for fall potlucks, it feeds a small army!

Ingredients
- 1 box white or vanilla cake mix
- 3 granny smith apples, peeled and chopped
- 2 tsp of cinnamon
- 1 - 14 oz can of dulce de leche sweetened condensed milk (can use plain)
- 1 container, whipped cream
- ½ cup of caramel sauce
- pinch of sea salt or to taste
- chopped nuts, optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Now, mix up the cake mix according to package directions, then by hand, stir in the apples and cinnamon until well incorporated.
- Pour into a greased 9 X 13" cake pan and bake for 35 - 40 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean. Now let it cool for 20 minutes. Stir a little sea salt in the caramel, taste and add more if you like.
- Using a skewer, poke holes all over the cake and pour the sweetened condensed milk over the top.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, Now just spread on the whipped cream, drizzle on the salted caramel and sprinkle on chopped nuts if you like. I like to let the cake come to room temperature before serving, bon appetit!
