Ellie got engaged! Her fiance’s name is Brandon, and I couldn’t have ordered a more perfect husband for her! (As if I could!) And so it begins, prep for the wedding and the party! It’s all happening late spring, early summer and we are having the reception here at the cabin! Can’t wait! Of course, I’m most excited about planning the menu, but the decorating will be huge fun! Stay tuned, I’ll keep you updated!
It’s February 11 and we are deep in the planning phase of the wedding reception and the wedding shower, lots of fun and tons of details as you well know if you’ve ever planned a wedding! The shower is April 14th and reception is May 19th, the ceremony is private with just El and Brandon and of course a photographer! Both events are here at home, in and around the barn, and of course guests will be free to explore the main cabin and the gardens, so the big challenge is to have the barn done on target! So far so good! With most of the construction finished we just have trim work to do on windows and doors, and a little painting and staining. We shop-vacced and cleaned all weekend. Many years of horses, hay, and dirt to clean up! When finished, this will be a perfect location for rustic, country parties! So the shower first, Ellie decided to have a couples shower in the evening, lots more fun! I thought it would be fun to have a “burger bar” as well as chicken satay, salad, fruit and what better than chocolate ecstasy cake!? It will be practice for the wedding reception! There will be 30- 35 guests at the shower and around 135 at the reception. This will be a gorgeous location for both! After the wedding, I will have the grand opening for the Antique shop! Stay tuned!
It’s March 26th and Ellie’s shower is approaching quickly, we’ve had the coldest, wettest spring that I can remember, it’s a shame, but we just have to stay the course! Later this week we’ll be cleaning and polishing up all of the antique furniture in the barn so that I can finally move in my smalls, lamps, rugs and hang pictures and mirrors. There is no warmth in sight! I was hoping we could fling open the barn doors and have an inside/outside shower but….NO! It looks like we’ll have to fire up the wood burning stove and have a fire going outside in the fire pit, oh well, no matter we’ll have fun! So, I have to tell you this, we’re serving triple berry and apple pie at the wedding reception, so I decided to make them ahead of time and freeze them, last week Ellie and I made 8 triple berry pies. All went well, down to the last pie being wrapped and frozen, we were so proud, then all hell broke loose! Our day of mother/daughter baking ended with a fractured nose and a trip to the Emergency room! I’ll spare you the gory details, but my poor little Ellie hit herself with the car door square on the nose and you can take it from there! Her dogs had a little something to do with the mishap! Anyway, she’s fine and here’s a picture of our pies before the tragedy! Next up, 10 apple pies and let’s hope we can through it without incident, the apple peeler may turn on us! We’re serving on vintage plates at the reception and the shower, we’ve been collecting and finally reached 141 plates, Hallelujah! We’ve hit every Goodwill, resale shop, auction and estate sale in the area for months! Something else that will be fun is that we’re making a gigantic “branch chandelier” for the reception tent that will be lit with fairy lights, it sounds like I’m rambling! Lot’s to do! I must remember, one thing at a time and I will stay sane through this! I’ll post some pictures of the barn soon after the big “clean and polish” day! Oh, and just to add a little more chaos, I got 2 of the wildest little kittens on the planet! Stay tuned, be back soon!
